These two were set to be married August 2 last year and we were booked to join them since 2013, but Monica had to undergo surgery and the wedding had to be postponed by a year. In a way — and I don’t think she knows this — she saved me from myself. At that exact same time, I was alternately weeping or in a stupor. It was merely days after I broke my leg on a freak accident at a shoot on a deserted island, and also had surgery of my own. (All good now, no worries!) I had post-traumatic stress and was unable to talk to anyone but Jeff, but when I read her email, it was like someone shook some sense back into me. Here was this woman going through more difficult times than I was, and she was handling it with incredible grace. I had no right to feel sorry for myself. So I stopped. And I wrote back. And I loved her even more.
On her original wedding date, Jeff and I and the team got together over lunch and coffee instead, and sent out some good vibes all the way to Yokohama, Japan.
We’ve been looking forward to this wedding for two years now, and it felt absolutely wonderful to have been there for it. Atsushi and Monica, your love for each other is inspiring beyond words. Everyone who knows you can see this and feel this strength and magic, and it makes me marvel at how the universe conspires to give us exactly what we need. You two were meant to find each other. Thank you for sharing your love with us. All our love to you both.
