Aries and Rinka had a charming intimate wedding in Osaka, Japan, and Jeff and I will forever consider ourselves lucky to have been a part of it. It was our first trip to Japan, and we fell madly in love with the place, the people, and these two. We shot their engagement session and I blogged about it here. We made a slideshow of their engagement photos that was shown at their wedding reception, and it got a standing ovation from some of their Japanese guests. My heart did little backflips of joy.
Rinka’s Veluz dress was gorgeous and delicate and suited her so perfectly. Veluz personally flew in to dress the bride. Here’s a side story: on the day of the wedding, during bridal preps, the hotel didn’t have a clothing iron to spare. I watched Veluz and her seamstress, Ate Lempot, improvise and smooth out the dress with a hair dryer and a damp towel. I was pretty much blown away. That’s what I call commitment and professionalism. And mad skills.
Aries is Filipino, and Rinka is Japanese. They were civilly wed and had children in New York, and they now live in Japan, where they raise their two unbelievably adorable kids. Their wedding was a great mix of Filipino and Japanese traditions. The piña in the wedding dress and the barong were so wonderfully Filipino, and they stood so well next to the local guests’ lovely kimonos. They did a quick change into kimonos themselves, halfway through the reception.
At the end of their wedding, I remember thinking how lucky these two are to have married the love of their life twice, and in such beautiful places. Then I saw their kids playing with balloons and I wished the same for us, that Jeff and I could renew our vows when our son is old enough to enjoy it, too. Funnily enough, we found out later on that we share an anniversary. Great minds think alike, yes? Haha. Aries and Rinka, thank you for such an amazing experience. It was an honor. Much love to you both and your family.
