Jeff and I were in a coffee shop yesterday, waiting for a client meeting, when I went through his laptop to look for a recent on-site slideshow to share. I clicked on Michael and Stephanie’s first for some reason, and burst into tears halfway through. So this goes on the blog today.
I think what got to me was the overwhelming happiness I felt from the people in the photos, which I didn’t expect to feel in that magnitude all over again, the kind that you can almost reach out and touch. And that moment when the veil was put on and I took her picture, and she looked up at me with so much openness and honesty. She looked at me with tears and laughter and joy in her eyes and I could feel everything she felt in those few seconds, and my hands shook. My hands never shake. I can tell when people are guarded and when they’re comfortable, and I think we do a pretty decent job of making the guarded comfortable somehow, but I was taken aback by how entirely unselfconscious she was, that she didn’t feel like she had to hide anything from me, that it was just something so disarmingly real that existed in that space right there.
Michael and Stephanie, thank you for the trust and for sharing this day with us! We had a fantastic time shooting you guys. Wishing you this much love and joy always.
