Every couple has a different dynamic and we do what we can to find out what that’s like. I think a large part of how we do what we do is really finding things about our couples to fall in love with and capturing those things in photographs. It’s getting to know the two different personalities and how each plays against the other. With Rolf and Jazz, we didn’t even have to try at all. They were open and comfortable and made of so much rock and awesome, it’s hard not to love them. When they dropped by last July to book us for their wedding this year, Jazz mentioned Rolf used to be a professional hockey player and that they were thinking of having part of the shoot at an ice skating rink. A first for us. And the jumping in the pool with formals on? Definitely another first. We certainly weren’t lacking in inspiration here.
So we notice the little things, because that’s what we do. Rolf treats Jazz like a princess. It’s not even a conscious effort, it’s instinctive. They took a spill while they were on the ice. They were going insanely fast but in the literal second that they were falling, Rolf twisted them around so that he would fall on the ice first and she’d land safely on top of him. That pretty much made my heart melt. And I like the way he makes her laugh. And how she laughs with him. They’re so unmistakably HAPPY, and it’s just the way they are together. When he looks at her, I can see she forgets for a moment that we’re actually there and there are no words for how much I just love that. I have to stop writing now because my face hurts. I can’t stop smiling, it’s ridiculous.
